Save Soil

Our soil is dying. Trees and plants are being uprooted and killed, lowering the strength and nutrients in the Earth's soil. If this continues, the entire planet could have no food in just a few decades. In this blog post, we'll dive deeper into why and how this is happening.

Trees and plants hold the soil together, making it strong and full of nutrients. But when those trees and plants go away, it creates erosion. Erosion is when the soil

isn't strong enough to hold itself together and ends up being reshaped by other elements such as wind and water. Have you ever seen the Grand Canyon? Well, that is a product of erosion. There were no plants to hold the soil and rock together, so the Colorado River carved through the rock to create a canyon. Also, trees and plants provide nutrients for the soil, keeping it healthy and happy. But again, when those plants go away, the nutrients do too.

For example, studies have shown that about 70 years ago, you could have eaten a regular apple with regular nutrients. Today, in order to get the same amount of nutrients from an apple, you would have to eat 8 apples. Another example: more studies show that in order to get the same amount of nutrients from an orange today as an orange from the 1950s, you have to eat 21 oranges!

So how can we help? Well, an Indian guru named 'Sadhguru' has started a movement. A petition. He is going around Asia and Europe with his followers on motorcycles and meeting with the presidents and prime ministers of all of these countries to convince them to stop cutting down so many trees, or face the consequences of no food. He calls his movement, 'Save Soil'. He is really pressing this issue, because it is important, and his organization is called 'Conscious Planet'.
